SKIN FLOODING EXPLAINED
Skin flooding is a technique that focuses on boosting the skin’s hydration levels. It involves layering the most moisturising products in a certain order, from the thinnest to thickest, to provide deeper, longer-lasting hydration. A typical skin flooding routine includes a cleanser, hyaluronic acid serum and moisturiser and the most important step is the serum.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
The number one benefit of skin flooding is hydration. Skin flooding allows the skincare you apply after a serum to penetrate deeper into the skin’s cells and makes your skincare routine more effective. It also helps to support and protect the skin barrier function and restores the skin’s radiance to give you a plumper, softer and glowing complexion. Dehydrated skin is the leading cause of many skin concerns such as inflammation, problem skin, irritation and redness so properly hydrating your skin by skin flooding will help to keep these issues at bay.
IS IT SUITABLE FOR ALL SKIN TYPES?
Skin flooding is suitable for all skin types, but it is most beneficial for people with dry, dull and dehydrated skin. People with sensitive skin will benefit from skin flooding as the extra moisture helps to support the skin’s moisture barrier. If you do have sensitive skin, we advise using high-quality products to avoid any irritations or breakouts. If you have oily skin you will still benefit from skin flooding but we recommend only doing it once or twice a week.
HOW TO SKIN FLOOD
An essential step in any routine, start with a gentle cleanser to thoroughly clean your skin. We suggest using cleansers that feature ingredients such as squalane and glycerin to help soften the skin. Then add your products, starting from the thinnest to the thickest consistency. Start with a hyaluronic acid serum or a serum that features niacinamide. Hyaluronic acid helps to attract and bind moisture to the skin so we recommend applying it when your skin is still damp as this will allow it to lock in the most amount of moisture. Once the serum has been absorbed, now is the time to apply your moisturiser. This step is essential as it seals in the moisture that you’ve just applied to your skin. If you’re skin flooding in the morning, always finish with a broad-spectrum SPF to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays.
