From cloud skin to glazed doughnut skin, glass skin and skin cycling, our social media feeds have been overflowing with beauty trends this year. One of the most popular has to be skin flooding and we’re big fans of the trend because of its focus on hydration.

The name might make this trend sound pretty extreme but it’s far from it. It’s so simple to do that you might already be skin flooding without knowing it.

Read on to discover more about this trend and if you suffer from a dehydrated and dull complexion, this is a blog post you don’t want to scroll past.

Skin flooding is a technique that focuses on boosting the skin’s hydration levels. It involves layering the most moisturising products in a certain order, from the thinnest to thickest, to provide deeper, longer-lasting hydration. A typical skin flooding routine includes a cleanser, hyaluronic acid serum and moisturiser and the most important step is the serum.

The number one benefit of skin flooding is hydration. Skin flooding allows the skincare you apply after a serum to penetrate deeper into the skin’s cells and makes your skincare routine more effective. It also helps to support and protect the skin barrier function and restores the skin’s radiance to give you a plumper, softer and glowing complexion. Dehydrated skin is the leading cause of many skin concerns such as inflammation, problem skin, irritation and redness so properly hydrating your skin by skin flooding will help to keep these issues at bay.

Skin flooding is suitable for all skin types, but it is most beneficial for people with dry, dull and dehydrated skin. People with sensitive skin will benefit from skin flooding as the extra moisture helps to support the skin’s moisture barrier. If you do have sensitive skin, we advise using high-quality products to avoid any irritations or breakouts.  If you have oily skin you will still benefit from skin flooding but we recommend only doing it once or twice a week.

An essential step in any routine, start with a gentle cleanser to thoroughly clean your skin. We suggest using cleansers that feature ingredients such as squalane and glycerin to help soften the skin. Then add your products, starting from the thinnest to the thickest consistency. Start with a hyaluronic acid serum or a serum that features niacinamide. Hyaluronic acid helps to attract and bind moisture to the skin so we recommend applying it when your skin is still damp as this will allow it to lock in the most amount of moisture. Once the serum has been absorbed, now is the time to apply your moisturiser. This step is essential as it seals in the moisture that you’ve just applied to your skin. If you’re skin flooding in the morning, always finish with a broad-spectrum SPF to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays.

If you suffer from dull or dehydrated skin or if you’re looking to achieve a hydrated and glowing complexion, then you will definitely benefit from skin flooding. All of our high-performance sheet masks are deeply hydrating but our Ultra Hydro Plumping Mask provides hydration to the deeper and surface layer of the skin. Formulated with a powerful concentration of sodium polyglutamate and sodium hyaluronate, this mask helps retain your skin’s natural moisture and will help you achieve a more even skin tone. Using this mask regularly in your skincare routine will also plump up your skin, strengthen your skin barrier and improve your overall skin health.
